The Imperative Mood in Greek

The Imperative mood can express both positive and negative commands, and like in many languages, it varies based on the formality and the subject of the command.

Affirmative Imperative (Active)

For regular verbs in the active voice, the imperative endings depend on the conjugation and the number of people being addressed.

Person Ending Example: γράφω (to write)
2nd singular -ε/α γράψε (write!)
2nd plural -ετε/άτε γράψετε (write!)

Negative Imperative (Active)

To form negative commands, Greek uses the word μη (meaning "don't") followed by the subjunctive form of the verb.

Person Example: γράφω (to write)
2nd singular μη γράψεις (don't write!)
2nd plural μη γράψετε (don't write!)
