The Present Tense in Serbian

Serbian verb conjugation in the present tense is straightforward, with some variations in endings based on verb groups.

  • Verbs ending with -ati: raditi (to work) → radim, radiš, radi, radimo, radite, rade
  • Verbs ending with -iti: videti (to see) → vidim, vidiš, vidi, vidimo, vidite, vide
  • Verbs ending with -eti: pevati (to sing) → pevam, pevaš, peva, pevamo, pevate, pevaju

For example:

Person Singular Plural
1st person ja pišem mi pišemo
2nd person ti pišeš vi pišete
3rd person on/ona piše oni/one pišu

While the verb endings are mostly regular, some verbs (like biti - "to be") are irregular.

Negative Form:

To negate a verb, use ne before the verb:

  • Ne radim danas. ("I am not working today.")
