The Present Tense in Serbian
Serbian verb conjugation in the present tense is straightforward, with some variations in endings based on verb groups.
- Verbs ending with -ati: raditi (to work) → radim, radiš, radi, radimo, radite, rade
- Verbs ending with -iti: videti (to see) → vidim, vidiš, vidi, vidimo, vidite, vide
- Verbs ending with -eti: pevati (to sing) → pevam, pevaš, peva, pevamo, pevate, pevaju
For example:
Person | Singular | Plural |
---|---|---|
1st person | ja pišem | mi pišemo |
2nd person | ti pišeš | vi pišete |
3rd person | on/ona piše | oni/one pišu |
While the verb endings are mostly regular, some verbs (like biti - "to be") are irregular.
Negative Form:
To negate a verb, use ne before the verb:
- Ne radim danas. ("I am not working today.")
