Turkish Possessive Pronouns
Turkish possessive pronouns are suffixes added to nouns to indicate ownership or possession. They agree with the person and number of the possessor.
Basic Forms
- 1st person singular: -(i)m (my)
- 2nd person singular: -(i)n (your)
- 3rd person singular: -(s)i (his/her/its)
- 1st person plural: -(i)miz (our)
- 2nd person plural: -(i)niz (your)
- 3rd person plural: -leri (their)
The vowel in parentheses changes according to vowel harmony rules.
Usage Examples
- Kitap (book): kitabım (my book), kitabın (your book), kitabı (his/her book)
- Ev (house): evimiz (our house), eviniz (your house), evleri (their house)
Special Cases
Nouns ending in vowels add -s- before the 3rd person singular suffix:
- Araba (car): arabası (his/her car)
For plural nouns, add the possessive suffix after the plural marker -lar/-ler:
- Kitaplarım (my books), evlerimiz (our houses)
When used with case suffixes, possessive pronouns come before the case marker:
- Evimde (in my house): ev-im-de (house-my-in)
